The Walking Dead is one of the only comic series I’ve managed to stay more or less up to date with for years (the other being Fables). I remember when Ben bought the first trades and we all geeked out super hard about how good it was. I watched the premiere of the series last night and was really quite pleased. I thought it did a great job being super creepy without the OMG SUDDENLY SOMETHING JUMPS OUT AT YOU kind of scares that the horror genre often reverts to. I like how none of the actors are really recognizable, which gives the whole thing a more realistic feel.
The only bad thing about watching a series (or a movie) based on something you’ve ready is that you already know what’s going to happen. They did embellish the story so far a little bit, but it’s more or less the same storyline. However, it’s also kind of fun to see how it comes across in a new genre, and it’s been so long since I read the beginnings of the series that it’s sort of a nice refresher.
